Bridge Plugs

Bridge Plugs are downhole tools composed of slips, mandrel and an elastomer sealing element. It is run in hole and set in casing to isolate a lower zone from an upper zone. It may be installed to permanently seal a well or installed temporarily to preform work on the well.

Core Laboratories offers a wide range of bridge plugs to address various situations:

  • Premium– This is a high pressure and high temperature plug. The central mandrel is made of cast iron. This gives it excellent resistance to downhole chemicals. Additionally, it gives the plug the ability to be easily removed by a drilling operation.

  • Magna Range – This plug is specially designed to pass through restricted I.D. tubing and set securely in the larger tubing or casing I.D. below. This performance can save time and money. Because of the extreme setting range, this plug is not pressure rated nor guaranteed although it is designed to withstand differential pressure of 10,000 psi at 350°F. and has been successfully tested to such.

Should it be necessary to remove a Magna Range Plug after setting, a milling process is recommended as the plug is constructed of mild steel and is not considered drillable.

  • Econo – This is a medium pressure and lower temperature plug. The central mandrel is made of cast iron. This gives it excellent resistance to downhole chemicals. Additionally, it gives the plug the ability to be easily removed by a drilling operation.

  • Type A Frac Plugs – This plug is a compact unit, designed for multizone stage fracturing of gas wells. The plug is constructed of easily millable cast and ductile iron, with conventional two slip design. A large diameter bore extends through the plug with a beveled entry provided as a seat for the phenolic frac ball.
